#40 Mini Pinwheels

Pinwheels are so cute! I'm toying with the idea of using these as cupcake toppers for the wedding, but Will's on the fence about pinwheels. That's okay, I just wanted to make something cute!

I used the same craft paper that I had for the escort cards again. They sure are getting some mileage! I coloured in the whites after doing a few plain, and I think they look better two-toned, just I'm horrible and colouring evenly. :S Aaand the tape is showing where I stuck the edges and hearts together. I'll use glue next time, but glue is messy too.

Picspam time!

And I've made about 5 total.

#39 Escort Cards

This project is totally premature, haha. But I just couldn't resist! I got the idea from Martha Stewart's wedding crafts section, so I'll be making a stand for these babies later on...but for now it's just the cards. :)

I used some left over card stock paper from the bridesmaids invites project, and created mini flags as escort cards! The pack actually had a lot of colours that go with our theme. Well, the pink is in place of our red for this but the rest is exactly how I wanted it. I'll make more for more people as I think of them.

I just made little cut outs in Word, and used a paper cutter to slice them up. Everything's been glued together.

Onto the pictures!

The flags pre-tooth picks.
Photobucket
All done!
Photobucket
And a close-up.

Overall, I really like how they turned out. Not much fixing to be done, but I still consider these in "mock-up" phase.

I'll be making the stand for the flags later, with a Styrofoam base!

#38 Troll Face Embroidery

I think I have a good system now for crafting...Make shit when I'm angry! Haha! It's therapeutic, and creatively displays my hate in cute/funny forms. :) And hell, it'll probably make me more active.

This week's beef - everyone I deal with irl has been being all troll-like. Well, not everyone. Mostly just Boss #2. Such a dick for no reason.

Trolololol face!

Almost one year!

It's almost been one year since I started this blog! The project was posted on May 28th, 2010. Now, I did say that I wanted to reach 50 by that time this year, and it seems I haven't quite made it. I'm a little bummed that I haven't been as crafty as previous years, but I want to keep posting here and talking about crafts.

I have a lot of DIY wedding stuff planned out, but it still seems too early to start them. I might just anyways because I've got nothing but time at the moment, but it's a pain in the butt going out to Michael's all the time.

Anyways, here's what I want to DIY for the wedding:
Escort cards
Table numbers
Card box
Bunting decorations
Pinwheels to go with the candy favours
Bridesmaid gift bags
The invites... probably more but I can't think of it right now!

#37 Cream Eggs

I love Easter, but this year I've been totally lazy about Easter crafting. Instead, I caved in to my sweet tooth and just made some sweets. :) I used a tutorial on how to make homemade cream eggs from Instructables. Mine don't look as pretty because we tried to dip them instead of buying a mold. Yes, we. Will helped a lot with the dipping process because as we found out, that shit melts so fast and you need to keep it as hard as possible. They were in and out of the freezer a lot that afternoon!

Here they are!

#36 Heart Embroidery

Another easy embroidery that I whipped up on my one day off. Making something quick is so satisfying for the need of instant gratification. It always feels good to complete something, especially after a loooong week.

Here's the love :)
Photobucket

I'm also trying to build an etsy "portfolio" because I want to sell some embroideries or odds n' ends on the side to earn monies for the wedding. I may also put up for sale some old embroidery as well that I haven't done anything with, like my Dawn of the Dead piece.

#35 No Embroidery

This past week at my crap job has been, well, extra crappy. Normally I just get through it but Tuesday I wanted to scream "NOOOOO" at the world.

Simple project is simple!
Photobucket
And closer up.

It was really relaxing to embroider this to let out the frustration, especially while watching a marathon of a movie (Twin Towers, lol).

WIP Epic Pokemon: Month 2

I've officially been working on this piece for about 2 months now. Well...I guess more like 1.5 months, but technically with the amount of breaks, more like 3 weeks, haha!

Anywho, here's another progress shot. I've decided to move over and up each shot/page of pattern.

#34 Tissue Paper Flowers

More of the wedding craft kick!

I found this tutorial on crepe paper flowers, and fell in love. I eagerly set out to find this magical crepe paper...but the internet disappointed me. :( The sellers of crepe paper on the internet fall into 1 of 3 categories (if not all of the above) - 1) Only ship to the USA; 2) Only ship to schools or other mass users of crepe paper (ie craft stores...in the states...); or 3) Were more than I wanted to spend on paper (although beautiful). I did try some local craft stores, but paper sections are limited to scrapbooking supplies only in most places.

I improvised and tried it out with common gift wrapping tissue paper instead. It doesn't have the same realistic look, but I'm still quite happy with them. Onto the pictures!
Photobucket
And some detail
Photobucket

I want to make this for centerpieces at each table, along with maybe something else decorative (cross-stitch sayings? fancy table numbers?). I've made about 20 so far, but I calculated how many my supplies of tissue paper colours will make and it's up to three hundred flowers! That equals 16 flowers a table if we were to have 20 tables (5 people at each). I might want to make more for each, but that's the minimum to aim for at least. It'd be fun to get the BMs in on it and make flowery crafts together!

#33 Mini Wedding Sampler!

Long time no post! Or completed project for that matter. :S I'm still working a lot on the pokemon pattern, planning wedding junk (and crafts!), and many more "in limbo" projects.

On the topic of wedding crafts, I've been brainstorming a lot of ideas for it because we've got over a year till the date. Just some of the diy parts include the ring pillow, paper flowers for centerpieces, invites, bunting, etc.

When I found this royal wedding sampler for Kate & William's nuptials, I just had to make it for myself!

Tadaaaa!
Photobucket
I used our theme colours, and also substituted the crown for something more appropriate to us - a Mario mushroom! I think I want to frame it and use it as a decoration at the table we'll have for guest book signing, or maybe make my own guest book and make it the cover? Another idea I had for it was to use the best picture of it as possible and make it into our RSVP cards to mail with the invites. There's a few things online where you can make your own postcards like on moo, or heck even Wal-mart.

I'm having a lot of fun planning out decorations and DIY projects for this shindig. Will thinks I'm getting a little ahead of myself for it, but hey, it may actually take that long to get everything done!

WIP Sailor Scouts Cross-Stitch

I took a week off my Pokemon stitch last week to work on some cute Sailor Moon sprites! Again, patterns from Alcnaurewen! I couldn't finish them up because somehow, out of the bajillion threads I now have, I still don't have all the ones needed to finish them up. Sailor Jupiter is so incomplete, booo. :(

The next time I get out to Michael's, I'll have to get a ton more threads.

WIP Epic Pokemon Cross-stitch

Well, it has begun! I received the aida cloth in the mail by the 28th of February, and started it as soon as I got the cloth. This is the progress up to last tuesday, but I've gotten a bit further than that by now. I just haven't taken a weekly update yet, lol. I made a picture folder on my facebook for all the progress pictures because it would probably clutter up the blog to post every single picture.

The progress:
Photobucket

I've also started a side project of the inner Sailor Scouts as sprites to work on. So far, I've finished Sailor Moon, and started Mercury. They're so fast to whip up! I'll probably have it mostly done by the end of today because a friend is coming over for some crafting, and collective crafting is definitely a motivator to finish something. :)

#32 Belle Cross-Stitch

I've been on a cross-stitch kick lately. Finally got the big sheet of aida in the mail to start on the epic GenII pokemon piece, but before that I tried something a little different.

Beauty and the Beast is pretty much my favourite Disney movie from my childhood. Belle was always my favourite character too! When I found these patterns by Alcnaurewen on Sprite Stitch, I had to stitch her up!

Photobucket
I want to frame it up, and maybe put around the house or give to a little cousin.
Photobucket
And a close up! I love all the yellows. :D

#31 Big Foot Pillow Case

I caved in and bought a pattern from the etsy seller, badbird, last week. I've been eying her patterns for a while, but finally bought it! I'd love to get all of them eventually. :D

Since the wall is cluttered, and big foot doesn't quite fit with the wall art we've got going on, I decided to make it into a pillow case. The embroidery took about 2-3 days on and off, then about an hour to sew up on Saturday afternoon. :)

Photobucket
Samplers are so fun to stitch!

And with a cross-stitch themed pillow my sister got me! Decorative pillows ftw!

#30 Button Embroidery

I found a really pretty embroidery pattern online - flikr I believe, but I can't remember exactly where. When I do, I'll edit in the link! The weather here has been bleak to put it mildly, so we haven't really left the house much in the past three days except to get food. On the last day of my wonderful three day weekend, I finally did something productive and stitched this pattern up. :) I love how elegant and simple it is, so I just had to make it too.

I used blue fabric with white thread and buttons.
Photobucket
The close up shot!
Photobucket
The whole thing. :) I haven't finished framing it, but mostly because I don't know where to put it or if I'm going to give it away or not.

In other news, the pokemon cross-stitch hasn't started yet, booo. I had to order some aida cloth because the store didn't have the right size and I can't afford to travel all over town on the bus, so I just bought it online. Unfortunately, the online store was based out of Ohio and apparently they had massive snow storms lately so the shipping was delayed. Two weeks later and still no aida. It'll probably be here this week or the next, I hope.

To bide my time, I bought some patterns I've been eying up on etsy such as the Bigfoot pattern from Badbird, and the wedding set from WildOlive. I got a sweet surprise from WildOlive from ordering on Valentine's - a free pattern! Yay! So I have plenty of embroidery to keep busy with until the Gen II can get started. :) Gonna be a crafty week coming up!

#29 Ipod Valentines!

I'm on a Valentine's kick!

I've always had a soft spot for the holiday, thanks to my mom being a total sweetheart to us. She'd pack us cute cards and goodies in our lunch boxes! Yum! Holidays in our house were so fun, even for the commericially based ones such as "spend-money-on-a-lover" day, haha.

I found a super cute tutorial on how to make iPod valentine's boxes! Tutorial is here! I improvised a lot because I didn't bother to look for candy boxes around town(can barely afford transportation lately, boooo), so I just made small boxes out of a cracker box and duct tape.

I used:
- cardboard
- duct tape
- craft glue
- construction paper
- yarn
- tin foil
- aaaand scotch tape
- Oh yeah and tons of candy!

Onto the pictures!
Photobucket
This is the one with the playlist the pdf file came with - you could also edit in your own songs too, which I did with the next one...
Photobucket
Kinda bummed I couldn't find any white string, so I just used this white/yellow/orange yarn I had around. I pretty much only bought the candy to stuff it with, haha.
Photobucket
I think I'll make more to take to work. Give some to my day shift coworkers then some to my bffs who come to switch off with me! :D

Epic Pokemon is a go!

I bought as many threads as I could today at Michael's! They were missing about 13, which is not too shabby... and an even better bonus was that I didn't hold up the line too much! Booooooooooooo yah. Though, I'm pretty sure the old bitty behind was having a fit because she had to stand for 2 extra minutes, like hand-tapping on the counter and everything, haha.

I just didn't get the aida cloth for it because I got confused about the chart sizing for the project. It said 72.24 cm x 127 cm. Will worked that out to be like 4 feet tall! Uhh...that can't be right? So I held off on buying the cloth and checked it out after. It's actually supposed to be half that, just the program doubled counts.

Ughghg I can't wait to start!

#28 Crochet Roses

I'm learning how to crochet! I tried to learn a few years ago, and gave up. Not so sure why I just gave up on it, but I think that for me to bother learning something I need an actual project to try out with the technique. Something relatively easy for a beginner like me! So I found a cute and simple pattern on how to crochet some roses. Basically it's just single chains and some double chains, which are within my grasp, haha. Magic circle? Oh helllll no. Not yet at least, haha.

It's kind of addictive. I like the way the hook feels, all shiny and metal. I've made about 8 over the week, and still take a while making them. Only because I've been multi-tasking as well as I'm a super newb to the art of crochet. I like it! Hopefully I'll keep making things with it, but crochet clothing doesn't really appeal to me that much. I just like cute things - plushies, hearts, roses, etc.

Onto the pictures!
Photobucket
All the roses in a jar. I made the felt plush hearts last year around Valentine's.
Photobucket
Red and pink roses!
Photobucket
The tutorial I used had a stem/leaf crochet pattern part too but I was kind of lazy and didn't want to buy more yarn so I just used the pipe cleaner suggested and left it uncovered.

Speaking of which, the tutorial was from PlanetJune!

Is this crazy?

I've been pretty obsessed with Pokemon lately. Last night I found a blog where someone was cross-stitching every Pokemon from the original 150 to make a huge mural, from a pattern found on the Sprite Stitch forum. Thinking this over, it seems insane, but I want to try it too! They have a Generation II pattern, which is what I'd probably make because it's the game I've got and the Pokemon I love. :D

I went through all the threads I've got and I have 26 out of the 101 that I need to make it. Yup, 101 threads. The largest I've ever attempted had 50ish and that was crazy enough! I dunno, I feel it's time to try something huge again - and colourful to boot. It's supposed to be 14.2x25 inches...it'll look amazing on the wall.

My game plan will be to do a couple of pokemon a week, maybe one or more depending on how I feel. I think this time though I should go all out and buy all the colours at once. When I did my last huge one, the major reason why I gave up was because I was sick of doing it piece-meal and going to the craft store every other week to get more colours.

Hopefully I'll start this next week! Yay!

#27 Valentine's Wreath

Finally for something a little bit more girly! Inspired by this tutorial I made a wreath for the reddest holiday of the year. I also just like hearts on things.

Instead of fabric glue, I used hot glue because I'm too impatient for fabric glue to dry, and I don't have enough coordination to do that action quickly either. So hot glue it was.

Here's the progress picture:
Photobucket
I wrapped the wreath in fabric scraps and glued them down as well. Then covered with fabric roses and embroidered felt hearts as I went.
Photobucket
The detail shot! It's got large roses as the base, then smaller roses, then topped with felt hearts that I used a blanket stitch around the edges.
Photobucket
And the whole shebang! I just tied a ribbon around the roses before glueing the heart in place.

I looooooooove it. Really easy tutorial to follow from that blog, just takes a lot of time, and hot glue. :)

#26 Flareon Cross-Stitch

I got Pokemon SoulSilver for Christmas because I'm 12 years old. Not really, but I do love the games! I especially love the pokewalker, haha. This post is dedicated to my love of Pokemon.

I actually started this cross-stitch back in September or so, but Michael's was missing two main colours when I was there...and then I got lazy about heading back to check if they were in stock, so I left it until the past weekend. Flareon was always my favourite Eevee evolution. :D

#25 Boo and Bob Omb Plushies

I think I may have started a small tradition for the holidays...well, I found nerdy people to craft for! Aka, the future brothers-in-law, haha. Last year, I cross-stitched them both some gaming related pictures that they really liked so I decided to follow up on that theme again this year.

I used Seremere's tutorial on how to make a boo plushie for Aaron, and altered it to make Bob Omb for David! The problem with crafting at my parent's house is that I never have all the items I usually need for things. Hitting up Creative Zone on the odd trip to Terrace is a pain! And Walmart is incredibily unreliable for finding the right stuff. Anywho, so I tried to used fabric glue that I bought for it, and it just didn't stick on at all. I ended up hand-sewing on all the facial features as well.

Anywho, onto the pictures!
Photobucket
Boo. I wish the stuffing wasn't grey. D: You can't really tell in the picture, but if you look close at it in person you can sort of see it through the white felt.
Photobucket
Bob Omb! I did a lot more improvising on this one obviously, lol.
Photobucket
Together now!
